On 17 September I had the privilege to accompany the Interact Club on a visit to the Sunset Retirement Home in Muizenberg.

The Retirement Home has 11 residents and is run by Sr Dot Barker and a small staff.

The entire school contributed to the Interact Club’s collection of sweets and biscuits, potted plants and toiletries.  We created gift baskets that we could deliver to the elderly residents.

Once there, Emma-Jean Beattie entertained the residents on her singing, while the others chatted with the elderly and gave hand massages.  The learners engaged comfortably with the elderly residents and we all had an amazing time.  I had to drag our learners away from there.

The group has unanimously decided that this is going to become a regular outing – at least once a term.

What an amazing experience!
