In Grade One it is important to start to build our Xhosa vocabulary. The most obvious place to start is with the every day things around us.

In Term Two we will be focusing on the nouns commonly found within the classroom.

Simple things like: the board, our books, pens, pencils, desks, chairs and tables.

Through simple repetition and making the Xhosa lessons fun, we have started to build our vocabulary in almost no time. By keeping the lessons fun with lots of chanting we have noticed that the children remain engaged throughout the lesson.

We point and shout the words out so that they may sink in and in that way we will remember them.

Remember to ask your child about nouns that may be encountered at home and have them tell you the correct Xhosa name for these nouns. The best way for them to learn is to teach others.
