We are proud to announce that Nthabiseng Mathayi was selected to perform at the Hugo Lambrechts concert last Sunday, 30 August 2015.

A delegation from Silvermine Music Academy travelled to Parow to support Nthabiseng. Amongst the group was the Director of Silvermine Music Academy, Nthabiseng’s class teacher and her Violin Teacher, Titia Blake. Fellow Music Academy student Hannah Schubert also attended in support.

It was a fabulous evening of classical music hosted in the glorious Hugo Lamprecht Auditorium. Nthabiseng performed with an orchestra conducted by Liam Burden. Amongst the audience members were renowned teachers and internationally successful composers, a wonderful yet daunting experience for any budding musician.

It was inspiring to see Nthabiseng truly hold her own among some of South Africa’s most talented young musicians. Her hard work and dedication are matched by that of her teacher, Titia Blake, who has worked with Nthabiseng from the beginning. Titia directs the Masi Music Outreach, a string ensemble from the Bishops Outreach Program which sponsors young people to learn to play musical instruments. She has been instrumental in changing a number of young lives through music outreach and Nthabiseng is one such student.

Since starting lessons in 2011, Nthabiseng has played several solos and was a member of the Sun Valley Ensemble that won the primary schoool ensemble section of the Facets competition this year. Nthabiseng has been awarded a full scholarship to attend Wynberg Girls High School in 2016, a well deserved opportunity. We wish Nthabiseng all the best for her promising future, and celebrate with her in her remarkable achievements so far.
