Calculus can be defined as the study of the “rate of change”. This is a very useful concept as it is revisited many times in Tertiary Studies involving the Science and Business fields. If you want to be an astronautical engineer, a pharmacist, an actuary or a biologist – you need calculus! One of the most practical uses of Calculus is when astrologers studied the movements of planets in our Solar System and then used “limits” in Calculus to predict their future movements.

At the moment in our Grade 11 Mathematics class we are learning about how to differentiate functions using the Differential Laws (which is not an easy task). This will help immensely with the next section in Calculus which is sketching cubic graphs.

I’m so impressed at how hard the Grade 11s are trying to master this important concept.
