Have you ever wondered how you can Google an address and get a street view of it? Google Maps is used all over the world. When you want to know where something is or how to get somewhere you use this service on your computer or phone. The Gr 6’s are busy investigating how this application works through its use of satellites.
Website links have been provided in the Mapwork iBook for the young researchers, which saves a bit of time in finding the appropriate information to answer the given questions. A rubric has also been supplied in order for the Gr6’s to know what is expected of them.
This project develops the children in so many ways. They learn how to apply good Investigation, Research and Recording and Summarising skills. They have the opportunity to learn how to use the Pages App on their iPads to type up their project and present it with illustrations found on websites. Most importantly, they learn to work independently and take pride in their own work.
As educators we are looking forward to celebrating their findings and end product of their Satellite projects with each individual in our class.
