The IEB have designed a challenging set of tasks this year for our Common Assessment Task, or CAT. The focus is Poetry, and the wider role it plays in our lives.

Our Silvermine matrics are required to select a theme and search for relevant and authentic poetry based on the theme in its broadest sense. Not a simple task – the internet provides a massive scope for this research but our students must guard against unoriginal and ambiguous poetry.

This week the students will engage in a conversation strategy where they will present, analyse, share and discuss their poetry choices with one another. I look forward to seeing what the students have discovered and if their current views and perspectives on their chosen theme have been changed by the poetry they have read.
