The Grade 12 Life Orientation students had the opportunity of peer-marking their discursive essays.

The task was to write a discursive essay pointing out the effects of Brexit on the average British citizen using the marking rubric as a guideline to achieve maximum marks. After researching the topic and writing the essay, each student had to mark five peers’ essays, again, using the rubric. The aim of the exercise was to make the students aware of how the final Life Orientation essay would be marked.

Apart from the: “Oh, I can’t read this handwriting!” everyone settled down and used the marking rubric and gained invaluable knowledge, not only, of the Brexit subject but also of how to structure their essays for maximum marks.
