‘Poverty is the worst form of violence.’ Mahatma Gandhi

The Grade 10 students have been examining the many aspects of Social and Environmental Responsibility this term. In particular, we have discovered how POVERTY traps the individual, and offers no freedom for those experiencing it.

BLOG PIC 2Nelson Mandela believed that overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity, but rather an ACT of justice. The students have also been examining the cycle of poverty, crime and violence. Using flow charts and statistical evidence, they have had to face some harsh realities about youth violence in South Africa.


Despite the seriousness of many of the issues discussed, solutions are available – and Silvermine Academy students want to be part of those solutions!
