scienceAt the end of the term our Grade 3’s were enlightened by the mystery of floating and sinking.

It was a great way for children to explore a fun science concept.

They were invited to experiment, play and explore how and why different object float and sink when placed into water.

As a group they had to predict whether the object would float or sink. They then had the opportunity to place the objects in the water and observe the process. The students spoke about why some objects sank and why some object didn’t. We used this activity to promote scientific thinking through the use of scientific language such as; predication, observation, comparison, reasoning and data handling.

There was much fascination when comparing the difference between a can of regular Coke and a can Coke Light.
