At the end of last term the Gr6’s went on a field trip to the Martin Melck House Museum in Strand Street, Cape Town. Here they were divided into groups and led by amazing and knowledgable tour guides on the life and experiences of Dr Nelson Mandela and the time of Apartheid in our country.

The Gr 6’s have been exposed to this information in class as we are busy reading Long Walk to Freedom during Thematic lessons. This caused them to participate in the discussions with enthusiasm. They were fascinated with the extra knowledge gained during this excursion.

The displays in the Museum were remarkable and our youngsters left with a far better understanding of the Apartheid era.

The Gr6’s also spent some time at the Botanical Gardens during this field trip. Here they could enjoy their lunch and each other’s company. There was great excitement feeding the squirrels and the pigeons. It was wonderful hearing their laughter in such a beautiful setting.
