The Grade 6s recently visited Living Hope Centre just outside of Capri. A day of giving back to the community was awaiting our kids and what amazing servant hearts they have displayed during our time spent there.

The four classes rotated between four stations. Station One was where they packed the hygiene packs with items collected for Living Hope over the course of Term Three. As a grade we managed to donate almost 200 hygiene packs which will be distributed amongst the needy in the poorer communities of Fish Hoek Valley.

At Station Two the learners were taken to “The Shack”, a small media room where they were shown a short video about the work that Living Hope is doing in the local communities. This video touched many hearts and the kids got a better idea of what poverty really is.

Gardening was much enjoyed at Station 3. Here, fertilizer had to be raked over the top soil in one of the tomato tunnels. Some boys had to hoe a field, while the girls had to separate the hooks from a nest of string to be used for the hoisting of the tomato plants in the tunnels.

And then there was a lunch station where our hungry kids could enjoy a home packed lunch.

A group of Gr 6s have been practicing two songs to serenade the patients who are currently in the frail care unit of Living Hope. The patients thoroughly enjoyed their singing and appreciated the kind gesture so much. Other Gr 6s went along to hand out healthy snack packs to each patient to be enjoyed during their stay.

This was a day that will be remembered for a long time. Reaching out to our local community has blessed us indeed.
