We are currently investigating Food Preservation and Nutrition in Grade Six. Our aim is to make our children aware of what they are eating and to help them make healthy eating choices.

We have explored the history of Canning as well as looked at the processing of the Cassava plant.

Group work has included looking at the different ways of preserving and processing food. Here we did The Bouncy Egg Experiment which was a rather smelly occasion. The process of decalcification has been discovered and discussed.

The kids are currently researching an eating style of their choice which they then will present as an oral to their peers.

Interesting discussions will be held around the role of vitamins and minerals in their daily diet as well as the effect of an imbalance thereof.

After Assessment Week we will be watching The Sugar movie which is rather thought provoking and makes us all think twice about what we eat.
