The 1st Team Boys Hockey Tour was an AMAZING experience for all involved.

The manners displayed were, as usual, impeccable. The vibe within the team was something special. Parents, supporters and onlookers could not stop raving about the Sun Valley TEAM – their spirit, their team work and support of one another was quite phenomenal. The team produced the best results ever achieved by a Sun Valley Boys Hockey Tour. In fact the they scored 10 more goals than any other team has before.

Day one was a good wake up call for the boys. The day kicked off against a very well-drilled Rhenish team and the lads were satisfied with a 0-0 Draw. The stand out game from Day 1 was the 1-0 victory over Summerwood, a strong sport school from PE.

Day 2 promised to be the best day yet as the lads were set to take on some strong schools from around South Africa, and the boys delivered! After a tough start against the team of the tournament, Gene Louw, the boys came back with a vengeance to complete a convincing 3-0 victory over our good friends, Knysna Primary. Heads dropped ever so slightly after a frustrating 0-0 draw with Eversdal, but the boys bounced back in a big way to beat a very strong Woodridge Team 3-0.

The afternoon was spent frolicking in the Adventure Land Pool. The manners that the boys showed during all dinners and field trips were exemplary.

Day 3 dawned and the boys were feeling the strain of two intense days of hockey. Our first match against Gene Louw B was a messy affair and it helped the boys to loosen up and get into the games ahead. A stirring pre-game talk got the boys fired up and the team decided then and there that the tour record was going to be theirs! A tight second match against a strong RAMPS side saw the SVPS lads come out victorious 1-0.

The boys then set their sights on the powerful Sunridge boys from PE. They held nothing back and ended with a stunning 3-0 victory to end off the tour on a high and secure the SVPS Tour record in the process.
In discussion with Coach, Mr Best, he had the following to say: “As a coach I could not be more proud of the effort my boys showed. They never gave up, even when their bodies were aching and sore. They worked as a team 100% of the time and all victories were TEAM VICTORIES.”
What a pleasure to heave our Gr 4-7 Curriculum Innovator, Debbie Fortune, on Tour.  Mrs Fortune loved the Tour and spent the three days screaming her lungs out in support of our brave young men.
Well done to each of these incredible young men and their fine coaches. You were, and continue to be phenomenal ambassadors for our fine school.
