The Grade 4 children took step back into the history of Fish Hoek. In the space of one day the children transformed themselves from 21st century children into children from the early 1900’s.

The first stop on our journey was at one of Fish Hoek’s earliest shops, AP Jones. Here the children paraded their outfits for the residents to see. They were greeted by staff and shoppers and thoroughly enjoyed getting to model their new looks.

Once they had walked through AP Jones the children walked, very well behaved at that, to Fish Hoek Beach along the Main Road. This brought smiles and stares from shop keepers and passersby, all the way to the beach.

At the beach it was time for a picnic lunch. Out came the old wicker baskets, picnic blankets, devilled eggs, lemonade and frikkadels. So much fun was had comparing lunch and attire, and getting to share their treats with friends.

Traditional beach entertainment then followed. A beach fashion show kicked off the festivities before the classes competed in sack races, wheelbarrow races, crab walks and a sandcastle building competition.

Great fun was had by all the children and the staff, with many agreeing that this field trip was one of their highlights for the term. The children loved seeing their work come to life. We’re looking forward to the next Grade Four adventure!
