This past week the Grade 11’s had to present a prepared reading to the class, but at the IEB it is so much more than just reading!

Choosing a suitable passage is easy.  Finding a passage where you can motivate why you chose it, makes it slightly more challenging.  Students have to be knowledgable about the content and the topic of their chosen passage and be able to have a discussion about it in Afrikaans!  Thorough preparation is imperative to be able to communicate about your topic in Afrikaans.

The students chose reading passages that reflect their passion.  The topics were diverse and made for interesting listening and discussion.  The topics varied from rare illnesses and the way animals communicate to soccer heroes and ice-bergs as solution to water scarcity.

The IEB always expect students to think critically and express own opinion and prepared reading provides a great platform to do just that.
