Over the past few weeks the Grade Sixes have been leaning about acids, bases and neutrals. This involved learning about the link between smell and taste. It was rather entertaining seeing their reaction to the different tastes of certain foods. A research project has been completed on the nose which was presented to the teacher using the Popplet App on their iPads.

A visit to the Cape Town Science Centre has most certainly been a highlight. Here the kids felt like true scientists working in a real laboratory. They were taught about pH levels and conducted an experiment to test the pH levels of different substances. Our kids enjoyed the Science show which was rather exciting. They also had a session on coding in the IT room.

We conducted our own pH level test in class. Individually our little Einsteins had to come up with a hypothesis for each test. Creating the Fizz-inflator was fascinating and this experiment was repeated by the co-operative groups several times.
