Last week, our U12A and U13A Netball Girls set off Trinity House, Randpark Ridge to partake in the annual National Netball Festival. There were plenty nerves as the tour began with many students flying for the very first time.

Upon arrival, the girls were greeted by freezing temperatures in Johannesburg.  Of course the debate on what to wear began – typical girls! After a long drive from the airport, the girls were warmly greeted by their incredible Trinity House host families – what lovely people.

After a lovely first evening, the girls were up bright and early to prepare for the first matches of Tour. The girls looked stunning in their brand new kit. The nerves and excitement were evident as the U12As lost their opener against the eventual Tournament victors. However, the U13s dealt well with their nerves and completely controlled their first match. Both teams ended the day with mixed fortunes as they walked away with one win and one loss against some amazing opposition. The girls were smiling from ear to ear as they enjoyed every moment of this experience.

The hosting parents collected the girls and took them around JHB for some sightseeing. Others made dinner plans and some even set off to catch a movie! The Tour Whatsapp Group with the coaches was “pinging” off the hook as the girls laughed and joked their way through the evening.

On Friday morning, the girls went to Monte Casino for the much anticipated LASER TAG. The girls ganged up against the coaches in round one and completed destroyed them. Mr Solomons started with confidence, but soon found out that Netball Girls don’t play games when it comes to BATTLE! Later on, the girls continued the festival matches. The fun of the morning clearly catapulted them to new heights as both teams won two on the trot against high quality opposition.

The girls enjoyed a lovely braai at the Trinity House Pavilion that evening where they got the opportunities to make new friends and new connections. In true tour style, plenty of giggles and dares followed – what fun!

Saturday was the BIG day of netball as both the touring and local teams joined the festival. In the words of Mr V, the “Gees” was evident.

After an intense day of netball, the U12As played beautifully to win their last game of the festival against top school, Cornwall Hill. The U13As gave it their all on the final day and produced some pleasing performances. In a nail-biting finish, the girls narrowly went down in their final match.

Throughout the Tour, Sun Valley girls were highlighted for their incredible vibe, impeccable manners and confidence when communicating with adults and officials. What amazing ambassadors.

A special mention of Emma Botha who was named Player of the Tournament across all schools – what an achievement. Thank you to our incredible coaches who gave up time away from their families to make this such an awesome experience. Coach L, Mrs Winter and Mr Solomons – you guys ROCK!
