On the 18 July, South Africa celebrated Nelson Mandela’s centenary. It is an opportunity for all to honour his legacy by taking action to do good and demonstrate peace and unity amongst all.

This term, the Grade 6s will learn about Apartheid and Democracy in our Thematic iBook and will read Nelson Mandela’s biography: The Long Walk To Freedom.

We will be exploring the goals of the Freedom Charter, symbols of democracy and the symbolism of our coat of arms.

We celebrated Madiba in Grade 6 by creating our own Long Walk To Freedom footprints to put up on display. Each footprint will demonstrate the unique way each Grade 6 learner pays homage to Nelson Mandela’s legacy.

Our Grade 6s spent their 67 minutes for Madiba by teaming up with the grade 3s and reading their box books with them on the playground.
