Last week Wednesday, 18 July, our Grade Ones celebrated Mandela Day. It would have been Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday and it was the perfect opportunity to give back to others. We started off with a discussion about Nelson Mandela and what he has done for South Africa. Our children were clued up on this topic and gave us some great feedback!

To honour his legacy, we decided to spread kindness to those around us and partake in an activity that helps others. Our Grade Ones started off with a litter clean-up of the whole school field. A big task for such little bodies!

We then made “vouchers” for someone special to us. The voucher had to be something that would help the person and brighten their day. It was special to introduce his legacy and life in a way our children could understand and participate in!
