The Grade 3s have been learning all about Data Handling this week. We have focused on gathering information and representing it visually through a bar graph.

What better way to master this concept than to create a concrete graph on our classroom floor, by using masking tape and a touch of creativity.

Each student took off an item of footwear and placed it under a heading: takkies, slip slops, barefoot or other. As a class, we tallied the totals and verbally discussed the differences between them. Using the relevant vocabulary, we conducted various calculations based on the information represented on the graph.

The Grade Three’s loved this hands on experience and now have an even better understanding of collecting and representing data.
