07h30 and all was not still and quiet at the Rocklands Campsite. This was because it had been overrun by over 130 super excited grade 4’s, ready for their camp. Moms and dads were left behind as their children ran off to get their first taste of camp life. There was so much to do from playing soccer with MacNugget aka Mr MacDonald to jumping on the trampoline, that the excitement levels were through the roof.

First order of business was for all the children to be split into their camp groups. This was done by Sassy Salamander aka Ms Smith and helped by Crazy Chameleon aka Mrs MacDonald. Everyone loved the fact that the teachers had given themselves camp “animal” names. Mr Best transformed into Grumpy Goat, Ms De Lange became Mamma Bear, Ms Bright was Talkative Turtle. This was only the beginning as we were also joined by Cuddly Koala, Chicken Joe and Cranky Crocodile.

The weather was stunning and the campers enjoyed spending time creating with group names and war cries. This was great for team building and for the prefect leaders to get to know their groups a bit better. The afternoons highlight was definitely the fashion show. Each group selected a boy and a girl to strut their stuff down the runway. The campers were given a great demonstration by Mrs Fortune and Aunty Bernie. The confidence of the children was a stand out for the teachers.

The evening highlight was the scavenger hunt and the “BEST” show ever. The scavenger hunt involved the campers working out clues and solving puzzles to make their way to the buried treasure. The GREY group came out victorious and enjoyed sampling the “SWEET” taste of victory.

Friday morning dawned bright and breezy with all the campers up and ready before most of the teachers had even thought of opening their eyes. The morning hike before breakfast was absolutely stunning. Panoramic views of False Bay was just what everyone needed to work up their appetite before breakfast. After breakfast the dreaded pack up and clean up started. This was made bearable by knowing that raft building was waiting for them.

From start to finish the Grade 4 Campers gave their all and the teachers could not have asked for a better bunch of campers. A few camp awards were handed out but all the staff agree that each and every person could win each award. A huge thank you must go to the Rocklands Campsite and team for the use of their amazing facilities. The teachers would like to extend another thank you to the SVPS prefects who showed true leadership in trying conditions and lead their groups beautifully.

All in all a great time was had by everyone. We can’t wait until next year!
