In Grade 6 we have been exploring various substances through taste to find out what chemicals they contain. Our enthusiastic students have discovered that chemicals can be categorized into three groups namely: acids, bases and neutrals.

On this journey of tasting and carrying out experiments, the Grade 6 students got to learn that there is slightly more information linked to the word “acid.” They learned about ascorbic acid, citric acid, fumaric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and sulphuric acid.

With all the theory done and dusted, we allowed time for the students to experiment with litmus paper and check out whether substances are acids, bases or neutrals. This went down with a “BANG” as our students jumped  into their experiments with excitement.
