After a great season of Netball, our U11A, U12A and U13A’s finished top of their League and had the privilege of attending the Top Schools Tournament at De Kuilen. This is a prestigious event where all the Top Netball Schools in the Western Cape battle it out in a great day of high quality netball. Being apart of this is an amazing achievement and we are proud of all our teams for getting this far.

It was our U11A’s first Top Schools event and it kicked off with a nerve start. Unfortunately they lost by 6 points against De Hoop, but this only motivated them to try give even more in the next game. The 2nd game was a much tougher game against Durbanville. The girls worked hard and with amazing teamwork managed to keep the margins tight, only losing by 3 points. The excitement ran high and the girls went into their 3rd match with confidence. They secured an amazing win against Hendrick Louw. Having found their rhythm, these little U11’s were unstoppable. In sweltering 34 degree heat, they managed to go into the 4th and final match of the day like champions and achieved another win against Fanie Theron. Unfortunately they just missed out on the Semi Finals, but this is an absolute amazing achievement for their first ever Top Schools!

U12A had their work cut out for them, facing some of the biggest netball schools around. They jumped right in and Drew their first match against a powerful De Hoop team. Their next game proved to be a lot more challenging and they went down to Brackenfell. With the heat increasing rapidly, the there was no relief on of off the court as they headed into their third match against Kenridge. The girls played with heart, but some mistakes unfortunately did not count in their favour and they walked off with a loss. Even though the heat was unbearable and after a long, challenging day the girls were still in good spirits as they headed into their final match against Eversdal. They put up a good fight and showed amazing skill. They should be so proud of themselves for showing real GRIT.

Our amazing U13A’s started their day against Eversdal. Unfortunately, circumstance outside our players control caused them to lose the game, a much needed win as the girls were aware of the tough encounters ahead. This incident just motivated our girls to work even harder for the rest of they day and they went blazing into their 2nd game against Brackenfell, playing their hearts out and after some amazing netball – although not winning – they walked off with their heads held high. Their 3rd match was a convincing win against De Hoop, building their confidence for the next match. The 4th match the girls were tired but positive. They had to really dig deep in the blazing heat and walked off with a win against Van Riebeeck Strand.

Unfortunately after the goal averages were calculated, our girls narrowly missed the semi-final playoffs. Although very disappointed, we could not be more proud of these versatile, hard working, young athletes and in our eyes they are all winners.

Well done, girls!
