Informal, Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMME)

SMME’s have been identified as drivers of inclusive economic growth in South Africa and across the globe (The Banking Association of South Africa, 2019). However, many of them are still operating with improper bookkeeping systems.

During their introductory chapter a few weeks back, the grade 10 accounting students learned about bookkeeping system. It was defined as a method designed to record, process and report on the transactions of a business. Its ultimate goal is to provide information about business performance.

Aware of their informal recording and processing systems and their importance in the national economy, the students approached some SMMEs recently with the sole intention to understand their operations and provide them with advice in order to improve their bookkeeping systems. These are some photos of their presentations.
