We welcomed our amazing Silvermine students back into the classroom a few weeks ago. The Grade 10 students have adjusted really well to the new challenges they are facing during this difficult time. During this past week the Grade 10’s have been learning about the ethical issues regarding stem cell research. This is a vital component in the section regarding Mitosis and Meiosis. An important part of scientific research (and life) is being able to see things from someone else’s perspective. This skill is needed to answer arguments against your own work. The Grade 10’s practiced this skill by debating the controversial topic of stem cell research and human cloning. They realised that it is not that easy to defend an argument that you don’t believe in, and to look at something from another perspective. They also learnt that things are seldom as simple as they seem to be at first. Well done Grade 10’s on developing your critical thinking abilities!
