After exploring elements of the constitution of South Africa and the significance of the public holidays that we acknowledge, the Grade 9s researched a range our national symbols.

These ranged from the springbok to the protea. We were enlightened to their origins and meaning and made aware of where we see the symbolism being used in our country today.

They shared with their class some beautifully constructed presentations as well as some interesting facts.

Some of South Africa’s National symbols are:

The National fish: Galjoen

The National animal: Springbok

The National bird: Blue Crane

The National flower: Giant or King Protea

The National Tree: Real Yellowood

The National Anthem: Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrica
