First Aid training was fun! Cape Medical Response came to train us in Basic Medical Assistance today. We enjoyed learning how to take care and treat small injuries. We learnt what to do if bones are fractured or if a person is paralyzed. Each Grade Seven received a certificate and an emergency first aid kit. Thank you CMR we appreciate[Read More…]

Children for Children

Children for Children

Grade Sevens will be reaching out to other children at Easter time. Wendy Whitaker, a parent at our school, has been involved for many years helping children in Napier. These are mostly orphaned children. I approached Wendy and asked how we could get involved. She asked if we could collect empty 2 litre coke bottles and a packet of sweets.[Read More…]

I Didn’t Know That!

I Didn’t Know That!

Here are some interesting geography facts to think about: The Amazon rainforest produces 20% of the earth’s oxygen. Antarctica is the only land on the planet not ‘owned’ by any one country.  Instead, all countries share it. The first city to reach a population of 1 million people was Rome, Italy in 133 B.C. Also, there is a city called[Read More…]

On Wednesday our Sunbirdies, donned in their team colours, put their running and jumping skills to the test. Team spirit was the order of the day and the children came to the fore beautifully. Hats off to all our children, they were super stars. Jenny’s class won the day. Hazel and Stella’s classes came a close second and third respectively. [Read More…]

We tackle Elsie’s Peak

We tackle Elsie’s Peak

We have been learning all about direction, mapping and street planning, as part of our Social Studies.  In order to get a bird’s eye view of the layout of the town, we climbed to the top of Elsie’s Peak. Founders Day

Founders Day

The entire school from Grade R to Grade 12 crammed into the hall on Tuesday to celebrate Founders Day. We sat enthralled as we worked our way through the schools history in the form of some very old photo’s. We are so privileged to have come so far and are grateful for all the blessings we have at Sun Valley.[Read More…]

Athletics Fun Day

Athletics Fun Day

What a beautifully sunny day we had for our Athletics Day! We all gathered on the field in our houses ready for a fun-filled day! We laughed with the Grade One children as they ran in Dad or Mom’s big floppy shoes. We concentrated with the Grade Three’s as they worked as a team in the “three-legged” race. Our Grade Two’s[Read More…]

Shakespeare Said It First…

Shakespeare Said It First…

As I said a few weeks ago, we have Shakespeare to thank for many of the words we use when we speak English.  When he wasn’t sure which word would fit what he was trying to say, he made one up.  Not all of his words were successful (for example ‘unhair‘ has never really caught on,) but here is a[Read More…]

Founders’ Day Celebration – A Walk Down Memory Lane

Founders’ Day Celebration – A Walk Down Memory Lane

On Tuesday, this week, we took a walk down memory lane as we visited the past of Sun Valley Group of Schools from its very inception in 1977 until 2012. It was an amazing sight to see all three Groups of Schools seated in the hall, together, as one big family. We enjoyed a powerpoint of photos from 1977 and every[Read More…]
