Our Safari Hunt

Our Sunbirdies had great fun on Friday when they  went on a ‘Safari Hunt’, right in our very own ‘game reserve’ garden.  They had to search diligently for the wild animals hidden in the bush.  Some children even spotted the elusive animals camouflaged by the trees and flowers.  While searching for these magnificent animals, the children ticked of their finds[Read More…]

Our wild life park

Had you visited Sunbird on Wednesday, you would be forgiven for thinking you were in a Wildlife Park. Thanks to our two G.A.P. students Marion and Emma, various forms of wildlife were seen camouflaged in our new re-vamped playground. Thanks to Mr Keller there are no more hippo’s wallowing in the mud, but dry little Sunbirdies playing in the straw.[Read More…]

My Pets

This week, the children have learnt all about their classmates’ pets.  The children who do not own pets, have had a great time.  Sunbird children have learnt how to care for domestic animals.  They have been exposed to the usual pets as well as a few unusual creatures than one could own as a pet,ie: spiders and snakes.  Despite the[Read More…]

Olympic fun

In celebration of the Olympic games and to prepare the children for all the related hype, this week our Sunbirdies learnt about the different sporting events and symbols.  They mosaic’d the Olympic rings and now understand that the five rings represent the five continents and the fair play promise. Our visiting gap students, Storme and Gaynor introduced the Olympic torch[Read More…]

Happy Birthday Tata Madiba

Happy Birthday Tata Madiba

The day began with a fantastic early turn out by all our Sunbirdies.  Excitedly waving the flags that they had made, our Grade R’s made their way to the “big school” hall.  We were very proud of our learners as they sat perfectly still and quietly listened to Mr Keller, who told them all about the great Madiba. It was[Read More…]

Sunbird honours the Municipal workers

Sunbird honours the Municipal workers

As part of recognizing important members of our community, Sunbird chose to thank the men who collect our refuse each week. On Tuesday we surprised the dustmen when they came to collect our refuse, with biscuits iced by our Sunbirdies. The children had decorated a poster which they held up as the truck arrived. When they realised we were honouring[Read More…]

Mud fun at Sunbird

Mud fun at Sunbird

It is tough trying to keep children occupied in doors when all they want to do is go out and play in the rain.  On Friday when the rain subsided for a while, the children rushed outside to make the most of the little bit of sunshine.  Large puddles beckoned and the children succumbed to them.  In gumboots or barefoot,[Read More…]

Tasty shapes at Sunbird

Tasty shapes at Sunbird

The children learnt about shapes this week. To consolidate their learning, on Thursday, for Bake and Make, they cut different shapes out of bread. These shapes were then soaked in egg and fried to perfection by Hazel.   The Sunbirdies then got to top their “eggy bread” with Nuttella or syrup. The weather was particularly wet and the children enjoyed their[Read More…]
